Mayport, 2nd Boxer Sailor Confirmed with Coronavirus; Naval Academy Midshipmen Returned Delayed Indefinitely

THE PENTAGON — A second sailor assigned to USS Boxer (LHD-4) and a sailor assigned to a San Diego-based helicopter squadron have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, the Navy announced on Wednesday.

The sailor from Boxer is the second from the ship following an initial March 13 case from the big deck amphib.

“There is no indication that the sailors were in close contact aboard the ship. Also, the sailors work in two different departments,” the Navy said in a statement.

Navy Reservist, Miramar Marine Test Positive for Coronavirus; 2nd Marine Under Watch at Camp Pendleton

A Marine stationed at Miramar Marine Corps Air Station in San Diego, Calif., tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus and is being isolated while receiving treatment, I Marine Expeditionary Force officials announced Thursday.

A sailor in Naples, Italy has tested positive for the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus, marking the first time the virus has been discovered in the Navy, according to a Saturday statement from U.S. European Command.

Coronavirus Concerns Prompt PACFLEET to Impose 14-Day Gap Between Port Visits

The U.S. Pacific Fleet has ordered all ships and afloat units in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility to remain at sea for 14 days between port visits, a quarantining restriction intended to limit transmission and exposure to the coronavirus, a Navy official said Thursday.
