Austin’s I-35 again has worst traffic for truckers in Texas

Interstate 35 in downtown Austin is the most gridlocked roadway in the Lone Star State for truck drivers, according to an annual report from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI). 

It was the second year in a row that I-35 in Austin topped the TTI report for most congested roadway for truckers traveling through the state.

Truck drivers spent almost 640,000 hours in traffic on I-35 in Austin, costing them $118 million in lost time and fuel during 2020, according to the study.

Walmart picks Dallas area for 2 high-tech logistics facilities

Walmart Inc. recently announced plans to build two massive, automated warehouses in the Dallas area to support the retailer’s growing supply chain network.

A 1.5 million-square-foot fulfillment center is set to open in 2023, and a 730,000-square-foot  grocery distribution center is expected to open in 2024. Both facilities will be in Lancaster, Texas, around 15.5 miles south of Dallas.

Union Pacific plans to add sidings in strategic areas

Among Union Pacific’s (NYSE: UNP) $2.8 billion in capital investments in 2021 are additions or extensions of sidings at a number of points along its network.

Averitt Express opens Dallas-area distribution center

Cookeville, Tennessee-based Averitt Express recently opened a 400,000-square-foot distribution and fulfillment center in Grand Prairie, Texas, near Dallas.

The new center, which employs about 70 workers, is aimed at streamlining supply chains for manufacturers, distributors and retailers, company officials said.

Walmart retools Dallas store into fulfillment center

Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) is converting one of its Dallas stores into a Market Fulfillment Center for online pickup orders as the retail giant seeks faster ways to serve customers.

It will be Walmart’s first Market Fulfillment Center in Texas and only the third in the U.S., Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson told FreightWaves.
