Complete Framework Of Just-In-Time Standards For Main Port Call Activities: DCSA

Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), a neutral, non-profit group established to further digitalisation of container shipping technology standards, in conjunction with its nine-member carriers, today published interface standards and messaging API (application programming interface) specifications for all 50 event timestamps defined in its port call data definitions, which address the 6 main parts of a port call:

Q&A: Standardizing supply chain data exchange for ocean transport

Global supply chain visibility, automation and optimization depends on the quality of one commodity: data.

While individual freight forwarders and container lines have optimized their internal processes, none have developed a standard way of doing business across shipping stages.

Port operators, drayage carriers, warehousing companies and final mile delivery partners have their own visibility tools that require integration with carrier operating systems, but there is no standardized framework.

In...

DCSA Establishes IoT Standards for Container Connectivity

Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), a neutral, non-profit group established to further digitalisation of container shipping technology standards, in conjunction with its nine-member carriers, launched the DCSA Adopter Programme, which enables solution and service providers to validate adoption of DCSA standards based on the DCSA Self-certification Checklist (SCC).

Benefits for all: How standardisation is bridging container shipping’s digital divide

The digital revolution has changed the way the world does business. That change has been more evident and more rapid than ever before over the past year as all industries grapple with the challenges of COVID-19. Container shipping is no exception to the digital revolution, but the pace and benefits of that change have not always been equally felt by all participants.

Rotterdam and Singapore proceed with eBL trials

Singapore and the Netherlands have collaborated since 2019 to explore electronic bills of lading (eBL) on the Europe-Far East trade lane where Singapore and Rotterdam are two major transhipment ports.

This trial demonstrated that an eBL issued by one platform could be verified and processed by another digital trade platform, according to an announcement by the Port of Rotterdam Authority.

“Before we can start making extensive use of this new option, countries will need to adapt their legislation...

Shipping lines agree T&T digital standards and call for ‘widespread adoption’

Ocean freight customers can now gain access to a standards-based API, following the adoption of track and trace (T&T) standards.
The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) said today the majority of its members had adopted T&T standards, enabling an API which allows shippers real-time, cross-carrier data on their containers.
DCSA said “widespread adoption” would create better reliability and real-time responsiveness and carrier MSC called for collaboration across the industry.
“While a...

All shipping has to do to beat air cargo to e-freight, is be nippier than a glacier

Dear ocean freight industry,
News that the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) is frustrated with the lack of progress in digitising bills of lading will come as no surprise to those of us who have long-studied inaction in air cargo.
The DCSA is determined to avoid the same mistakes, and chief Thomas Bagge is laying down the gauntlet: can you, the ocean freight industry, make this inevitable change faster than air cargo …
