Included in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is an exemption that applies to interstate trucking allowing employers to avoid paying drivers for overtime work.

GP Transco hikes pay in ‘major’ way for company drivers

Trucking company GP Transco announced Wednesday a “major base pay increase” for w-2 drivers. Solo company drivers will see 60 cents per mile in base pay, roughly 66 cents per mile in total when including accessorial pay for layovers and extra stops. Team drivers will earn a base rate of 75 cents per mile, nearly 80 cents all in.

Solo drivers who opt out of using driver-facing cameras will earn a base rate of 58 cents per mile as well as accessorial pay.

Averitt announces pay bump for new truckload drivers

Trucking company Averitt Express has announced a pay increase for its newly hired regional truckload and flatbed drivers.

Regional drivers will now start at a rate of 50 cents per mile, $1,200 assuming a five-day week, the carrier announced on Monday. Flatbed associates will start at 52 cents per mile, $1,375 for the full week. Both regional and flatbed drivers will see a 2-cent-per-mile increase after a year if they have received their hazmat endorsement.

Nagle Toledo raises driver salaries 17%

Nagle Toledo announced a 17% pay increase for its drivers, the biggest in the company’s 36-year history. The Toledo, Ohio-based truckload carrier raised starting salaries for drivers from $1,200 to $1,400 per week effective Jan. 1. The company’s top pay plan tops out at $1,700 a week.

A couple of truckload carriers have raised driver pay heading into 2021. Beacon Transport announced Monday a 3-cents-per-mile pay increase for new drivers effective Jan. 1.
