The pioneering Danish e-ferry Ellen has racked up another record, becoming the world’s longest-range fully-electric ferry by sailing 50 nautical miles (92 kilometers) on a single battery charge.

In service since 2019, the vessel operates between the Danish islands of Ærø and Fynshav. Danfoss drivetrain picked to power Electra electric ferry

Alameda, Calif.-based marine technology startup Boundary Layer Technologies has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Danfoss’ Editron division for the electrical drivetrain system that will power its hydrofoiling electric ferry (e-ferry), Electra.

Boundary Layer Technologies unveiled the Electra concept in October last year. The ferry is designed to have a range of up to 100 nautical miles and a cruising speed of 40 knots.

Stena Line Launches Its Fourth E-Flexer

Stena Line’s first new extended E-Flexer ferry has been launched at the CMI Jinling Weihai Shipyard in China, says an article published in Offshore Energy.

About the vessel

The Ro-Pax vessel, whose name is yet to be revealed, took to the water for the first time on 24 May. The vessel was ordered in 2018 and the delivery is expected in 2022.
