New 7,000-hp McAllister tug arrives in Charleston

McAllister Towing and Transportation Co. Inc. announced that the 6,770-hp tug Capt. Jim McAllister arrived today at the Port of Charleston, S.C. The Capt. Jim was delivered by Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, Fla., on Aug. 16.

The Capt. Jim is the fourth in a series of four 100’x40′, 80-MT bollard pull tugboats. The tug is the 33rd tractor tug in McAllister’s fleet.

Eastern delivers third of four escort tugs to McAllister

Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc., Panama City, Fla., delivered the 100’x40’x16’4″, 6,772-hp escort/rescue Z-drive tug Ava M. McAllister to McAllister Towing and Transportation Co., New York, on May 31, 2019. The new tug design is provided by Jensen Maritime Consultants and was issued a USCG Sub-M Certificate of Inspection (COI). The vessel arrived at Eastern in 2018.

Steel cut for first Coast Guard offshore patrol cutter

Three months after Hurricane Michael swept across its facilities, Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, Fla., said this week that it has begun cutting steel for the future Coast Guard cutter Argus, the first in what will become the mid-range class of the 21st century fleet.

Fairbanks Morse gets engines contract for offshore patrol cutter

Fairbanks Morse, Beloit, Wisc., has been awarded a contract to build and deliver the main propulsion diesel engines (MPDE) for the Coast Guard’s offshore patrol cutter Chase.

Fairbanks Morse – a company of EnPro Industries based in Charlotte, N.C. – will build the MPDE system at its Beloit facility for the cutter, which will be constructed by Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Panama City, Fla.

Eastern Shipbuilding hit hard by Hurricane Michael

Hurricane Michael’s path brought its eye wall with category 4 winds over the Eastern Shipbuilding Group at Panama City, Fla., where company officials now are working to make sure workers and their families are safe and begin a recovery.
