Performance Team opening cold storage facility in New Jersey

Maersk North America announced Monday its Performance Team will open a nearly 168,000-square-foot cold storage facility in Dayton, New Jersey, in October to serve imports and exports of such commodities as fish, poultry, beef, pork, fruits and vegetables.

Disabled Laura Maersk headed to port

The Laura Maersk, disabled by a turbocharger breakdown, is expected to arrive in New York Harbor under tow at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The container ship was en route from Algeciras, Spain, to Elizabeth, New Jersey, last Thursday night when an explosion occurred in the engine room. An injured crew member was medavaced by the U.S. Coast Guard on Friday and transported to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.

Turbocharger breakdown disables Maersk container ship

The Laura Maersk was being towed to Elizabeth, New Jersey, on Monday after an engine room fire that injured one crew member.

The container ship was en route from Algeciras, Spain, to Elizabeth on Thursday night when there was a “severe turbocharger breakdown in the engine room,” said Tom Boyd, media relations manager for Maersk North America. 

“A minor fire was promptly extinguished” and the crew member was medevaced by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, Boyd said.
