Coast Guard, FDNY joint response to disabled tanker

The Coast Guard and Fire Department of the City of New York boarded a disabled asphalt tanker anchored outside the port for a joint safety inspection Monday.

The Hong Kong-flagged 479’ Feng Huang AO had been inbound to New York when a fire broke out in its engine room Oct. 5, 57 miles southeast of Nantucket Island, Coast Guard officials said.

USCG rescues four from crewboat in Louisiana’s Chandeleur Sound

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people from a vessel that caught fire in Chandeleur Sound, Louisiana, early Monday morning.

Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans received a report at 2:36 a.m. that the 120’x25′ aluminum crew/supply vessel Grand Sun was on fire near the Chandeleur Islands. Y&S Marine, Belle Chasse, La., owns the Grand Sun.

A USCG aircrew arrived on scene at 3:52 a.m. and recovered the four people from the boat.

Machinery operator injured in fire at Ports of Auckland

A machinery operator has been treated and released from hospital with burns after a large fire broke out at the Ports of Auckland.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen billowing across the city, including the North Shore, from the blaze yesterday (10/2/2018) in the morning.

The blaze had broken out near railway lines alongside Quay St in a reach stacker, a vehicle used to lift and move cargo containers, a Fire Emergency New Zealand spokesman said.
