NTSB reports on an expensive collision between two barge tows

The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its report on a January 9, 2023 Lower Mississippi River collision between two barge tows that caused the barges in both tows to break free. Several barges were damaged in the collision, and about 1,380 gallons of ethanol spilled into the waterway. Two minor injuries were reported. Damages to the barges were estimated at $1.36 million.

Metal Shark Alabama, Bayou La Batre, Ala., shipyard has delivered its first newbuild, a 120’x35′ river towboat for Florida Marine Transporters Inc. (FMT) of Mandeville, La.

Steiner Shipyard delivers Florida Marine Transporters’ 100th boat

Eastern Shipbuilding delivers its 69th and 70th Florida Marine towboats

Eastern Shipbuilding Group Inc., Panama City, Fla., recently announced the delivery of the Jaden Pasentine (Hull 200). The 90’x32’x10′ towboat is the 70th built by the shipyard for Florida Marine Transporters LLC, Mandeville, La., and it was delivered in November. Eastern delivered the DPJ II, the 69th inland towboat in the series, in August of this year.

Steiner Shipyard delivers Florida Marine’s 100th towboat

On Oct. 10, Steiner Shipyard, Bayou La Batre, Ala., delivered the 100’x34’x11″ towboat David Goin to Mandeville, La.-based Florida Marine Transporters.

“This was our first boat for Florida Marine and our first Subchapter M boat,” said Tara Steiner Marshal, the shipyard’s owner and president, who took over the yard’s ownership when her father, Russell Steiner, retired earlier this year. “It was a learning process for everybody, but it turned out great. We’re building more boats for them.”
