Cook Inlet Tug & Barge (CITB), a subsidiary of Foss Maritime Company, announced today that it has purchased all of Crowley’s Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, assets. This includes tugs, barges, heavy machinery and other vehicles and equipment.

“These assets are already positioned on the North Slope,” said John Parrott, president and CEO of Foss. “They are operationally ready to perform shallow-draft tug and barge services and offer us the opportunity to expand our Alaska operations.”

Nichols Brothers building four new tractor tugs for Foss

Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB), Freeland, Wash., is building four new 90-ton bollard pull tractor tugs for Foss Maritime, Seattle. The contract has an option for six additional tugs and marks the first agreement between the two companies.

Foss has selected a design by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Seattle. The 100’x 40′ Z-drive tractor tugs will be built to Coast Guard Subchapter M regulatory standards, with ABS loadline certification, and UWILD notation.

Foss moving 5,000-hp harbor tug to Alaska

The Bering Wind, a powerful Dolphin Class tugboat, is being transferred from the Foss Maritime fleet in Long Beach, Calif., to Cook Inlet Tug & Barge in Anchorage, Alaska. The tug, formerly known as the Campbell Foss, is scheduled to begin service in Anchorage this month.

The vessel was renamed in October of this year and is scheduled to enter service in Alaska by Nov. 15, 2018.
