Japan Airlines sees future for drones

Japan Airlines (JAL) (OTCMKTS: JAPSY) may fly some of the largest aircraft in the world, but the carrier is also taking a closer look at how small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, could one day become part of its fleet.

Japan Airlines joins Tokyo drone delivery service testing

Japan’s flagship airline has joined a consortium of transportation and technology specialists to test drone deliveries of medicines and food in Tokyo.

Japan Airlines (OTCMKTS: JAPSY), along with KDDI Corp., East Japan Railway, Weathernews and Terra Drone Corp., announced the project with the Tokyo government on Monday.

Buffalo Wild Wings to be flown by drone

A Mobile, Alabama franchisee of a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant wants to deliver food to nearby customers’ doors by drone.

To test the service, Brian Jordan of Potters Wings Mobile partnered with Deuce Drone. The two companies plan to begin local food deliveries by drone in late August.

“Partnering with Deuce Drone will give us the opportunity to test new ways to evolve and meet the takeout needs of customers through drone technology,” Jordan said in a statement.

Matternet readies cargo drone for FAA tests

One of the country’s largest small drone manufacturers is ready to begin durability and reliability testing of one of its cargo delivery units with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) this year.
