Baltimore accuses Dali owner and manager of negligence and recklessness

Baltimore City Council is seeking compensation from the owner and manager of the container ship Dali over the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

In papers submitted to the US federal courts on 22 April, Mayor Brandon Scott and city officials have accused Singapore-based tonnage provider Grace Ocean and ship manager Synergy Marine of negligence.

Dali owners declare General Average

Grace Ocean, the owner of the container ship that knocked down the Baltimore bridge in May, has declared a General Average (GA) on the containers on board.

The company believes the salvage operations will lead to extraordinary costs for which they expect contributions from all salvaged parties under the General Average. At the time of writing, there is no indication as to when and where Dali will be berthed and unloaded.

Dali owners seek to limit damages payments

Grace Ocean, the owner of the 10,000 TEU ship that collided with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key bridge, has filed a petition asking the courts to at least limit the company’s liability to the value of the vessel.

Lawyers from Duane Morris and Blank Rome, acting for Grace Ocean and ship manager Synergy Marine filed the petition with the Maryland District Court yesterday, claiming that the owner and ship manager are not responsible for the accident.

BREAKING: Rescue underway following Baltimore bridge collapse after ship strike

There are more questions than answers this morning as Americans wake up to the news of a 948-foot Singapore-flagged containership, chartered by Maersk, having smashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Md., after leaving the Port of Baltimore.

The Baltimore Fire Department reported that two people were rescued from the water and taken to a local hospital in critical condition. It’s unclear how many additional casualties rescuers are trying to locate.
