The Oakland-based logistics services provider GSC Logistics will take further steps to accelerate its growth plans to meet the cargo surge and manage the import onslaught in the US West Coast.

GSC Logistics adds capacity amid West Coast container surge

Third-party logistics provider GSC Logistics announced Tuesday it would add 100 freight haulers to its network “as global trade booms.”

The Oakland, California-based company said the capacity additions would help expedite diverted cargo from congested ports to its customers in the San Francisco Bay area and the Pacific Northwest. The additions will increase its driver pool by almost 30% at the ports; 250 drivers in Oakland and 100 in Seattle. The new drivers are expected to be on board by summer.

Oakland Athletics takes swing at Schnitzer Steel

The Oakland Athletics this week struck back against opponents of a proposed ballpark with a lawsuit of its own.

Oakland A’s President Dave Kaval said in a series of 16 tweets that the ballclub filed suit against California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) in Alameda County Superior Court on Wednesday for its “failure to impose [and] enforce environmental law in West Oakland against Schnitzer Steel, the largest metal-shredding facility in the state.”

Oakland freight hauler testing electric power

A major Port of Oakland freight hauler is ready to take the next step with battery-powered trucks. GSC Logistics said it would acquire two more electric big rigs by October. The Port’s largest trucker said it wants to discover if zero-emission tractors can haul cargo containers over highways.
