How did the 1900 hurricane forever change the Texas shipping industry?

On Sept. 8, 1900, a Category 4 hurricane smashed on shore in Galveston, an island city of about 38,000 people on the Gulf Coast of Texas. 

The hurricane had maximum winds surpassing 135 miles per hour and a storm surge that inundated as much as a third of the city with 5 to 12 feet of water.

Gulf ports expanding their way to bigger profits

FREEPORT, Texas — Located in southeast Texas where the Brazos River empties into the Gulf of Mexico, Port Freeport is one of the ports best poised to accommodate bigger ships crossing the enlarged Panama Canal, officials say.

Port of Corpus Christi reports record tonnage for LNG, agricultural goods

The Port of Corpus Christi logged record results during the first six months of the year, reporting it moved more than 80 million tons of cargo.

The largest gains came from a 72% year-over-year (YoY) increase in liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, as well as a 42% YoY increase in exports of agricultural commodities and a 3.6% YoY increase in crude oil exports.

Crude oil exports for the first half of 2021 averaged 1.58 million barrels per day, according to a press release.
