An off-duty truck driver caught at the U.S.-Canada border with 13 bricks of heroin in a car was found not guilty on two drug charges by a Canadian judge who determined that his version of events was “plausible.” The driver maintained that someone must have placed the drugs in the trunk while he helped fix another trucker’s rig at a rest stop.

Port of Felixstowe sees the largest UK heroin seizure

An international investigation has resulted in the largest ever seizure of heroin in the UK, denying vast sums of money to organised crime groups.

Nearly 1.3 tonnes of the class A drug were recovered from a container ship, the MV Gibraltar, after it docked at the port of Felixstowe on 30 August.

National Crime Agency intelligence had ascertained that the heroin would be on the vessel when it docked in the UK en route to Antwerp.

600 kg heroin seized in Iran’s port

TEHRAN – Intelligence Ministry’s forces have seized a big cargo of heroin destined to Europe at a southern port, IRNA reported.

In a statement on Saturday (Jan. 19), the Intelligence Ministry said the cargo was adroitly embedded in four 40-feet containers, disguised as export commodities.

Iran, which has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, has been used as the main conduit for smuggling Afghan drugs to narcotics kingpins in Europe.
