Top 4 hours-of-service areas carriers should be concerned about

Carriers and drivers are governed by federal hours-of-service (HOS) regulations on a day-to-day basis. These rules dictate schedules and often determine whether a shipment will be delayed. Despite the regulations’ outsize impact on operations, confusion surrounding the rules continues to plague the industry.

Hours of service is consistently one of the topics carriers ask about most often, according to Richard Malchow, a transportation industry business adviser with J. J. Keller.

Getting your fleet in shape for Roadcheck 2022

Roadcheck checklist

Fleets across North America annually fret about the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s International Roadcheck event. This year’s event will take place May 17-19, and if past experiences have taught the industry anything, it is that some percentage — perhaps as high as 20% — of vehicles and/or drivers will find themselves sitting on the side of the road following an out-of-service order.

“Roadcheck should not be a cause for concern,” explained Tom Bray, senior industry business adviser for J....

“The Canada ELD certification process was very rigorous and detailed,” Joshua DeCock, Pedigree’s vice president of product management, explained in an email to FreightWaves.

Survey: 30% of drivers fully satisfied with their ELD

Road Hunter surveyed its app users for ELD provider information.

Based on a recent survey, there is a market for potentially 70% of truck drivers surveyed to switch electronic logging device (ELD) providers, said Road Hunter founder Mikhail Dzarasov.

In an interview with FreightWaves, Dzarasov said he conducted a survey among Road Hunter’s app users to find out more about their ELD providers with the intent to form new partnerships with major providers. Those strategic partnerships, he said, would enable Road Hunter to give its users more useful information.

The most common e-Log errors & violations – and how to avoid them

the most common ELD violations during roadside inspections

Electronic logging violations cost carriers tens of thousands of dollars, with potential violation fines ranging up to $13,000 per instance in some cases. Most violations, though, are preventable with the right mix of education, training and due diligence.

The recent changes in hours-of-service (HOS) regulations, designed to offer more flexibility for drivers in managing their time, has upped the complexity level of e-log compliance.

The HOS changes, which went into effect at the end of...
