Riskpulse calls for active 2020 hurricane season

Hurricane Dorian's outer bands are lashing Florida as the storm moves northward along the U.S. coastline.

The 2020 Atlantic Ocean hurricane season – from June 1 to November 30 – will see above-average activity, according to the tropical storm season outlook just released by Riskpulse and Resilience360, DHL’s supply chain management platform. Riskpulse is an analytics and risk management firm focusing on weather impacts to supply chains. 

There are two primary factors that contribute to above-average activity in an Atlantic hurricane season – sea surface temperatures and wind shear.

The U.S. Committee on the Marine Transportation System (CMTS) recently issued the report, 2017 Hurricane Season: Recommendations for a Resilient Path Forward for the Marine Transportation System.

Developed by the CMTS Resilience Integrated Action Team (RIAT) and approved by the CMTS Coordinating Board at the meeting held Dec. 12, the report provides an overview of the impacts to the MTS during the 2017 hurricane season and identifies best practices and lessons learned for federal agencies....
