Wärtsilä signs agreement with HMD for new Medium Gas Carrier vessel

Technology group Wärtsilä has secured a contract to provide cargo handling and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel supply systems for a new Medium Gas Carrier (MGC) vessel commissioned by Turkish ship owner Pasco Gas.

The agreement, signed by Wärtsi lä and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD), follows the vessel order, exercised as an option from a prior newbuild contract signed in February 2023.

Container shipping heavyweight Maersk has achieved a major milestone in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions with the successful launching of its first methanol-powered feeder vessel at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, reports Offshore Energy.

Shipyard workers across Hyundai Heavy Industries group to strike

Employees across the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) group of shipyards have voted to strike on 6, 7 and 13 December, as dissatisfaction with inflation and inadequate salaries mounts among South Korean workers.

Namsung Shipping books 2,500TEU pair at Hyundai Mipo

South Korean feeder operator Namsung Shipping has commissioned a pair of 2,500TEU container ships at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD).

The ships are priced at US$41 million each and are to be delivered in late 2023.

The order represents an upsizing of Namsung’s vessels as the company’s current ships have individual capacities ranging from 710TEU to 1,891TEU.
