ILO and IMO call for urgent action on seafarers stranded in Ukraine

Russian attacks on merchant shipping continue. According to Ukrainian sources, Russian forces last night shelled the icebreaker Kapitan Belousov (IMO 5181598) in the port of Mariupol, killing one person and injuring another. This is just the latest in a series of such incidents.

Progress on life cycle GHG emissions guidelines and impact assessment of measures at IMO working group

Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 11), 14-18 March 2022

Progress on developing draft lifecycle GHG and carbon intensity guidelines for marine fuels and assessment of impacts of GHG measures has been made by an International Maritime Organization (IMO) working group.

IMO calls Extraordinary Council Session

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will hold an Extraordinary Session of its Council to address the impacts on shipping and seafarers of the situation in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The Extraordinary Session (C ES 35) was convened following requests from several Council Members.  

 The Session will be held on 10 and 11 March in remote session.  

The IMO Council consists of 40 Member States, elected by the IMO Assembly.
