Seafarers seize ship in Senegal over unpaid salaries

Four seafarers, with the support of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), have seized a cargo ship off the coast of Dakar, Senegal, after going months without payment and facing dangers of physical integrity, according to a recent ITF announcement.

Unions support Australia’s Commission decision to block Svitzer’s planned lockout

Trade unions have welcomed a strong rebuke of Maersk-owned Svitzer Australia by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) after the court blocked the company’s planned lockout of its entire Australian workforce which was due to begin on 18 November.

ITF inspectors recovered US$37.6 million in unpaid wages for seafarers in 2021

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) said last year, union ship inspectors recovered more than US$37 million in unpaid wages owed to seafarers.
