Overcoming the impact of COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown challenges, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), India’s premier container port registered a throughput of 283,802 TEUs in container handling. The import container volume of April 2020 is 80% of the imports handled in April 2019 and overall throughput is 63% of the cargo handled during Apr 2019.

Inter-terminal transfer of boxes at JNPT boosts rail volumes

Trust, the country’s busiest container gateway, handled a record volume of rail containers in August after the port authority brokered a new deal on inter-terminal rail handling operations among all the five container terminals at the port which took effect from August 1.

JNPT’s inland container depot (ICD) rail volumes hit 70,398 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in August from 68,374 TEUs in July.

From January 2019 till date, JNPT’s rail volumes have touched 514,694 TEUs.

DP World calls for JNPT probe to be halted

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Dubai’s DP World has asked an Indian court to halt an investigation into alleged antitrust violations at the country’s largest container port in Mumbai, saying the regulator was seeking excessive information, a court document seen by Reuters showed.

Power shutdown at JNPT

As part of the Augmentation project being undertaken by the JNPT towards upgrade of the electricity infrastructure at the port, the authorities have planned a power shutdown on 3rd January 2019 between 08:30 hrs and 18:30 hrs.

JNPT cuts export dwell time of cargo

India’s largest container port JNPT has significantly cut export dwell time of cargo by 30.7 per cent to 63 hours and is developing an e-market portal for evacuation of import containers within 24 hours from the terminal, a top official said Monday.

JNPT is one of the top 12 major ports in the country under the shipping ministry. It has contributed significantly in improvement of India’s rank in World Bank evaluation in the parameter ‘Trading Across Border’ from 146 to 80.

JNPT plans edible oil refinery

Mumbai: The nation’s largest container port JNPT is planning to host an edible oil refinery to maximise revenue and ensure captive cargo, a top port official said Monday, Nov. 5.

The state-run port already has a liquid cargo terminal in addition to the four container terminals off the city’s east coast.
