Louis Dreyfus Armateurs plans to develop LH2-fueled SOV

As well as providing the fleet that ships aircraft components for Airbus, France’s Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) is also active in offshore wind support. Today it revealed, that, in collaboration with Norway’s Salt Ship Design, it has been developing a liquid hydrogen (LH2) fueled SOV (service operation vessel) concept.

LDA and Salt Ship Design teams have been working on the fully LH2 fueled SOV concept with key stakeholders including main equipment suppliers, class and flag authorities, and...

Airbus ship heads for Mobile, powered by suction sails

The decision by Airbus and Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) to install Norsepower rotorsails on their three next-generation newbuilds is just one part of the story on how the two are looking to wind-assisted propulsion to wring the carbon from Airbus’s two maritime routes.

Currently, three vessels chartered in from LDA operate on those routes — and one of these, the Ville de Bordeaux has now been retrofitted with bound4blue suction sails, in line with the LDA fleet renewal plan announced in...

Airbus ship rotor sail order is a game changer for auxiliary wind propulsion

This past year has been a good one for auxiliary wind propulsion as a growing number of charterers look to the technology as a means of cutting carbon across their supply chains. One of those charterers is Airbus, and its decision to include rotor sails on three new vessels it will charter from Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has brought Finnish rotor sail pioneer Norsepower Oy its largest order yet — and is, in fact, the largest order thus far placed in the mechanical sails market.

The new...

Deltamarin awarded design contract for new Airbus ships

Airbus ship profile view

Turku, Finland, headquartered Deltamarin has been selected to design the three wind assisted RO/RO vessels that France’s Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) will operate under a charter from Airbus. The aircraft manufacturer is looking to cut the carbon emissions of its fleet of vessels used to transport aircraft subassemblies between Saint-Nazaire, France, and its single-aisle aircraft final assembly line in Mobile, Ala., and the new Airbus ships promise big carbon savings.

Airbus opts for e-methanol and rotor sails for new transatlantic trio

Looking to reduce its carbon footprint, Airbus is to renew it entire fleet of vessels chartered in from France’s Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) to transport aircraft subassemblies between Saint-Nazaire, France, and its single-aisle aircraft final assembly line in Mobile, Ala.

It has commissioned Louis Dreyfus to build own and operate three new RO/RO vessels. Set to enter service in 2026, each will be fitted with six rotor sails and two dual-fuel engines operating on diesel fuel and e-methanol....
