The board of directors of Austal USA has named Michelle Kruger president of Austal USA, where she has been serving as interim president since August 2023.

Kruger joined Austal USA in 2022 as the vice president of global services and support. Austal USA delivers the future USS Kingsville

As production of the Navy’s littoral combat ship (LCS) program approaches its planned closure, Austal USA has delivered the next to final ship of the trimaran-hulled Independence-variant LCS series, the future USS Kingsville (LCS 36). Kingsville is the 18th Independence-variant delivered by the Mobile, Ala., shipbuilder and the first U.S. Navy vessel to be named after the Texas city that is home to Naval Air Station Kingsville and is directly tied to the historic King Ranch.

Austal USA is planning a major expansion of its Mobile, Ala., shipyard capability. The infrastructure expansion, which will be to the south of Austal USA’s current waterfront facility, will include a new assembly building, waterfront improvements, and a new shiplift system. Austal USA wins $867.6 million order for three Expeditionary Medical Ships

Austal USA, Mobile, Ala., has been awarded an $867,666,667 modification to a previously awarded U.S. Navy contract (N00024-19-C-2227) for the detail design, and construction of three Expeditionary Medical Ships, an Expeditionary Fast Transport variant.

Work is expected to complete by May 2030. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.

Austal USA names Chris Orlowski VP of engineering
