NYK is set to implement a cutting-edge Variable Compression Ratio (VCR) system in the construction of LNG-fuelled car carriers by Shin Kurushima Dockyard, with the first vessel anticipated for delivery in 2026.

NYK unveils seventh LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier

Tadotsu Shipyard, a member of the Imabari Shipbuilding Group, delivered the LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) Sweet Pea Leader to NYK on 26 October.

NYK ordered the vessel from Nihon Shipyard, and it is the company’s eighth LNG-fueled PCTC. NYK will launch a total of 20 additional LNG-fueled PCTCs by 2028 as a bridging solution to achieve net-zero GHG emissions for the NYK Group’s oceangoing companies by 2050.
