UK Continental Shelf: Oil and gas decommissioning cost continues to fall

The estimated decommissioning cost of the remaining oil and gas infrastructure in the UK Continental Shelf is continuing to reduce, according to the latest analysis by the UK Oil and Gas Authority (OGA).

This was the key message insight from the forthcoming ‘UKCS Decommissioning Cost Estimate 2019’ report, as shared by the OGA’s Head of Decommissioning, Nils Cohrs, at an Oil & Gas UK business breakfast on 27 June.

Norway to open three offshore wind areas

As the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy announced, it submitted proposals to potentially open two areas for offshore wind development, while also looking to possibly open a third area.

Specifically, the two proposed areas are ‘Utsira Nord’ and ‘Sandskallen – Sørøya Nord’ for offshore renewables. The ministry also asks for input on whether the area “Sørlige Nordsjø II” should be opened.

Norwegian PSA notes 12 irregularities on Equinor’s platform

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority during an audit at aboard the Vesslefrikk A and Veslefrikk B platform in April resulted to twelve irregularities concerning the safety of those working onboard. Sleipner A employees work long hours with increased workload, audit finds

The Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority revealed irregularities on Equinor’s Sleipner A platform in the North Sea. The issues concern the working environment on the platform, as the audit resulted to long working hours, increased workloads, noise and chemicals protection.

France aims to 1GW annual offshore wind tendering

As French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, reported France is to increase its offshore wind tendering target from 600MW annually, to 1GW until 2028, as the Dunkirk tender has shown that the costs are decreasing.

Cyprus to close FSRU deal

Partners sign MoU to support offshore wind development off New Jersey

Atlantis Shores Offshore Wind LLC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rutgers University to advance ocean research and monitoring that will support offshore wind development off the coast of New Jersey.

Wilhelmsen obtains 50% stake in Norsea Wind

Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) announced the acquisition of 50% of NorSea Wind AS and it’s subsidiaries to offer a unified and integrated solution to the renewable wind energy market. Norsea provides project management and logistics planning throughout all stages for on and offshore wind farm projects.

Connecticut joins $70 billion offshore wind project

After the Senate passed a bill to purchase 2GW of the renewable energy source, Connecticut announced that it will join New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts in constructing a $70 billion offshore industry, along the Atlantic seaboard.
