Hibernia platform remains shut after oil spill

Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC) is continuing response efforts regarding a release from the platform on July 17. Production remains shut in, while HMDC is continuing its investigation.

On July 29, HMDC had four ships in the field supporting response efforts. Six third-party wildlife observers continue to monitor for wildlife from vessels and overflights.

Sea Machines Robotics, Marad pact to demonstrate autonomous spill response

Open tank valve resulted to oil spill in Algoa Bay

According to the African News Agency, the oil spill occurring from MV Chrysanthi S was due to a not properly closed tank valve. Although the African authorities managed to contain the oil spill, the damage had already been done.

Oil spill observed near Hibernia platform, Canada

Hibernia Management and Development Company (HMDC) notified the C-NLOPB on July 17, 2019 of an oil slick observed on the water near the Hibernia platform, located 315 kilometres (kms) from St. John’s, NL.

All workers are safe and HMDC has conducted a controlled shut-in of production operations. Until now, no affected marine life or seabirds have been seen by government or industry observers near the spill and its trajectory.

Kirby Corp. to pay $2.2m for 2016 Canadian oil spill

In 2016, a tug barge owned by Houston-based Kirby Corp. ran aground in the Seaforth Channel near Bella Bella, about 98 nautical miles north of Port Hardy on Vancouver Island. Oil spill reported in Port Elizabeth

The South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) informed than an investigation is underway to establish the cause of the oil spillage incident during a bunkering service off the port of Ngqhura near Port Elizabeth on July 6 morning.

Husky Energy to replace connector after 2018 offshore oil spill

Oil company Husky Energy is planning to install a replacement flowline connector at the White Rose Field. This comes after the 250.000-liter oil spill in the Atlantic, which took place on November 2018, due to a flawed flowline connector.

Solomon Islands bay see another fatal spill

According to Guardian, a second major oil spill occurred in the Solomon Islands bay turning the sea water red; The affected area is the same where Solomon Trader ran aground due to unexpected gale at Kangava Bay, Rennell Island, on 4 February, causing an environmental disaster.

The environmental disruption occurred after 5,000 tonnes of bauxite fell into the sea from a barge on Monday, July 1,  according to Guardian newspaper.

New Zealand: Oil spill off Three Kings Islands not visible in aerial photos

New Zealand authorities have initiated an oil spill response operation at Three Kings Islands, at the north part of the country, after a fishing vessel reported oil on fishing gear and on a small number of sea birds in the area Monday, according to Maritime new Zealand.
