Instacart said late Wednesday night that it had filed a Form S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a possible initial public offering.

According to Bloomberg, the delivery firm is working with Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan on the possible offering, which Instacart said is not a definitive choice as of yet.

An IPO was rumored last year, although there was some speculation that Instacart would forgo the traditional IPO route and go the direct listing route instead. In a direct...

Grocery retailer Kroger is continuing its rapid advancement of online grocery options, announcing that it is expanding its fulfillment network to three new cities this year.

Similar to its previous expansion into Florida, the (NYSE: KR) fulfillment centers will handle e-commerce grocery without a physical...

Misfits Market creates 4 more oases in US food deserts

Misfits Market now offering online grocery delivery in Arizona, New Mexico, Nebraska, Oklahoma

Food deserts are areas of the country where residents have little or no access to affordable and healthy foods. Despite COVID-19 accelerating the fight against food insecurity, nearly 20 million Americans still live in these regions. For these people, prospects are slim for major grocers that sell everything you need for cheap — the Walmarts, the Krogers and the like.

Many who live in food deserts don’t have the resources to travel to stores with affordable or nutritious grocery options, so one...

Centralized buying at Whole Foods goes directly against its ethos

This is an excerpt from Monday’s (5/27) Point of Sale retail supply chain newsletter sponsored by ArcBest.

It’s been nearly four years since Amazon acquired Whole Foods. When the deal was announced, the fear was that in its quest for retail domination, Amazon would strip out everything that made the Austin, Texas-based natural foods pioneer so special, turning its ~500 stores into little more than mini-fulfillment centers for Amazon grocery. While many of the worst fears haven’t come to pass,...

Is Instacart headed to be America’s top grocer?

This is an excerpt from Tuesday’s (3/9) Point of Sale retail supply chain newsletter sponsored by ArcBest.

Instacart had a crazy year. Capped off by last week’s funding announcement of another $265 million at a valuation of $39 billion (more than 4x where it was to begin 2020), Instacart has seen every piece of its business explode over the past 12 months. By some accounts, the 8-year-old company now has roughly 50% of the online grocery market. With an IPO almost guaranteed this year, I wanted...
