Class 8 truck orders typically rise in September as manufacturers open their order books. That is not happening this year.

The combination of the semiconductor shortage and shortfalls in as many as 40 other parts needed to assemble heavy-duty trucks led manufacturers to write far fewer orders in September than the typical first month of fall.

Ship orderbook shrinks to 17 year low as Covid-19 slows contracting

The total orderbook for dry bulk, container and tanker ships has reached its lowest point in 17 years as Covid-19 has massively slowed contracting (-50%) while deliveries of new vessels have proved more resilient (-2%).

The orderbooks for dry bulk and container ships in particular have fallen sharply. At 63.4m DWT, the dry bulk orderbook is at its lowest level since April 2004 and 34.7% smaller than twelve months ago....

Hapag-Lloyd cutting costs while riding out pandemic

Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said while the German container line is well positioned to weather the coronavirus pandemic, it is cutting costs this year by a “middle-three-digit million-dollar number.”

In addition to blanking sailings, “we’re also restructuring services to mitigate costs and taking a whole variety of other measures as well. One of the ones that’s been the most public is, for example, trying to avoid the Suez Canal in some cases,” Jansen said during a press briefing...
