Patenga box terminal to start operation next week

The much-expected Patenga Container Terminal in Chittagong will come into operation in a week time by handling geared and bulk ships.

The 500,000 TEU terminal having the capacity to handle 10.5-meter depth vessels will enhance Chittagong port’s capacity significantly when comes online on 21 July.

H&M, Inditex lobby for Maersk to run Patenga Container Terminal

AP Møller-Maersk has engaged top global apparel retailers like H&M and Inditex to lobby the Bangladesh government for getting a contract to operate the newly built Patenga Container Terminal in Chittagong which will start operation in July.

H&M and Inditex have already written to Bangladesh’s shipping secretary saying that the Danish shipping company has vast experience in port operations and providing logistics service thus it can be the best choice for the newly built terminal.

Maersk steps up efforts to secure Patenga box terminal operation deal

As the construction of its warehouse in Chittagong is advancing, A.P. Moller Maersk has now intensified efforts to secure a contract to operate the Patenga Container Terminal through its subsidiary APM Terminals.

In this case, Maersk is vying with Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) and DP World who have also expressed interest to operate the terminal in Bangladesh.

Local companies who operate other terminals of the Chittagong port are also on the list of contenders who are breathing down in its neck.

Chittagong Port Authority to start operating new box terminal in April

The Patenga Container Terminal in Chittagong will start handling boxes in April, and the port authority will run the terminal until a foreign operator is appointed, according to the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) chairman, Rear Admiral Mohammad Shahjahan.

Red Sea Gateway Terminal eyes Bangladesh’s terminal operation

Saudi Arabian Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has shown its interest to invest in Bangladesh’s under construction Patenga Container Terminal which is expected to start handling boxes early next year.
