Unsuccessful Pirate Attack Reported on Tanker in GoG

Five armed pirates attacked and boarded a Liberia-flagged tanker located approximately 144 nautical miles west-south-west of Pointe Noire, Congo late last month, the joint UK-French Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade – Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG) security cooperation agency has confirmed, reports BAIRD MARITIME.

The attack occurred on March 25, as initially reported by the ship’s crew.

Pirates arrested near Mongla port

Heavy load carrier Blue Marlin came under attack by pirates near Mongla port on Tuesday (12 July) at noon.

A group of pirates equipped with weapons reached the ship which was anchored at the Bay of Bengal.

The ship personnel informed the port authority about the attempt by the pirates. According to information, the Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel reached the spot and approached the pirates’ group who fled immediately.

Russian navy thwarts pirate attack on MSC ship

The Russian navy has foiled a pirate attack on one of Mediterranean Shipping Company’s container vessels.

The navy’s press statement said that around 1 pm local time on 25 October, its anti-submarine ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov was patrolling the waters around the Gulf of Guinea when it received a distress signal from the 1,823TEU MSC Lucia.

At the time, the Panama-flagged MSC Lucia was sailing from Lome, Togo to Douala, Cameroon.
