Damietta Alliance Container Terminal signs final financing contract

The Damietta Alliance Container Terminal (DACT) has signed the final financing contract for its box terminal in Damietta, Egypt.

The financing consortium comprises international development banks including European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), International Finance Corporation (IFC), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), DEG and Proparco.

The joint venture, Damietta Alliance Container Terminal S.A.E., consists of the following shareholders:

Hapag-Lloyd ceases Syria connections with Greece and Egypt

Hapag-Lloyd has announced it will stop providing services that connect the Port of Lattakia in Syria with the Port of Piraeus in Greece and the Port of Damietta in Egypt.

The German ocean carrier said that Lattakia port will be continuing being connected to its network by two feeder services calling Tangier, Morocco and Valencia, Spain.

“These changes are effective immediately and will reflect if a booking request is placed on any of these routings,” noted Hapag-Lloyd in a statement.

Cooperation deal between USPA & Egyptian ports

The Memorandum of cooperation between the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and authorities of two Egyptian ports — Alexandria and Damietta — was signed in Kyiv on 2nd of November. In the future, it is planned to establish a bilateral working group with representatives of shipping lines, traders, port operators to discuss the implementation of joint projects.
