Oakland container export volume rises in October

The Port of Oakland’s October export container volume rose to the highest volume in any single month seen in 2023.

In particular, full export TEUs rose 4% during October 2023 compared to October 2022, with a volume of 68,974 TEUs.

“The fading of supply chain congestion caused by pandemic-related disruptions continues to bring exporters back,” said the Californian port.

Full imports are down 8% year-over-year with volumes having stabilised around 70,000 TEUs per month.

Typical Q4 spike in box volumes yet to be seen in Oakland

The port of Oakland’s September container volume remained relatively steady compared with August box throughput reaching 134,186 TEUs, marking a slight 1.2% increase over the same month in 2022.

Container volume at the Port of Oakland fell in August compared to the same month last year with the Californian port handling 135,253 TEUs, down 13.1% year-on-year.
