Port Tampa Bay slices warehouse operator’s payments

The coronavirus pandemic has spoiled a chunk of the fruit import business in the United States. Because of that decline, Port Tampa Bay’s board this week took a big slice out of a refrigerated warehouse tenant’s monthly payments. 

The board on Tuesday agreed to defer a $25,000 monthly loan payment for seven years and drop rent from $31,000 a month to 5% of revenues once those hit $5 million annually.

Tampa Bay strengthens container capabilities with federal grant

Port Tampa Bay, the largest port in Florida, is aiming to expand container capacity by 60% taking advantage of a US$19.8 million federal grant.

These funds are a part of the United States Department of Transportation’s INFRA Grant programme, which recognises innovative projects that improve US infrastructure in critical areas.

Port Tampa Bay welcomes new Asia container service

Port Tampa Bay welcomes the three leading global container shipping companies – ZIM, Mediterranean Shipping Company and Maersk – that they will launch a new joint direct service from Asia to the US Gulf, including weekly calls at Port Tampa Bay.

The new service will deploy 10 ships of 4,500 TEU capacity on the following rotation:

Xiamen – Yantian – Busan– (Panama Canal transit) – Houston – Mobile – Tampa – Manzanillo – (Panama Canal transit) – Balboa – Busan.

Port Tampa Bay sets the stage for more

Now that its cargo business is ramping up, thanks largely to two new weekly container ships from Asia, Port Tampa Bay has a new challenge: keeping up with its growth.

“We’re sort of the dog that caught the car,” Port Tampa Bay president and chief executive officer Paul Anderson said Tuesday. “We’ve got to handle two (new) weekly ocean services. That’s an additional 104 vessel calls per year of some of the largest ships that have ever come to Port Tampa Bay.”

COSCO giant vessel calls Port Tampa Bay

On Tuesday Jan. 29, one of the world’s largest shipping container companies docked its cargo ship, the M/V PIRAEUS, in Port Tampa Bay. It is now one of the largest ships to ever dock in the port.
