Terminal operator and port authority clash over expansion for Vancouver

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) plans for a fourth container terminal have been halted by a government request for more information.

DP World volumes decrease, portfolio increases

DP World reported Monday that 2020 first-half volumes were down 3.9% from the same period last year and that it had acquired a 60% stake in UNICO Logistics.

DP World Ltd. handled 33.9 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the first half of 2020, with gross container volumes decreasing 5.3% year-over-year on a reported basis and 3.9% on a like-for-like basis.

CN benefits from British Columbia’s growing propane exports

Three vessels carrying Canadian propane destined for international markets departed from AltaGas’ Ridley Island Propane Export Terminal on Thursday, beating a previous record by 50%, according to CN (NYSE: CNI). CN exclusively serves the facilities at the Port of Prince Rupert, which is where the AltaGas Ridley Terminal is located.

Port of Los Angeles in an uphill struggle to regain traffic lost to the east coast

The US port of Los Angeles is looking to technology and increased collaboration to stem the erosion of its container traffic – it ended 2019 with a throughput of 9.33m teu, a decline of 1.28% on the previous year.
Neighbouring Long Beach also registered a drop in container traffic last year, down 5.7% from its 2018 teu count.
