PSA Halifax enhances handling capabilities with new mega STS cranes

PSA Halifax unloaded two brand new mega Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes for its Atlantic Hub terminal on the south end of the Canadian port.

These new ultra-large cranes will be added to the five existing super-post-panamax cranes at the terminal, thus allowing PSA Halifax to handle the largest container vessels deployed along the North American East Coast.

This new equipment will also play an important role in expanding PSA Halifax’s capacity from 1.1 to 1.4 million TEUs by the end of the next year.

PSA Halifax orders eight electric cranes from Konecranes

PSA Halifax has signed an agreement with the Finnish port equipment manufacturer Konecranes for eight new electric Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (E-RTGs) for its Atlantic Hub terminal.

The new E-RTGs will arrive by the second quarter of 2024 and will increase the Atlantic Hub Terminal’s total RTG fleet from nine to 17.

PSA Halifax adds two STS cranes to its fleet

PSA Halifax has ordered two additional Super Post Panamax ship-to-shore (STS) container gantry cranes for its Atlantic Hub terminal on Canada’s east coast, with their delivery expected in early 2023.

The CMA CGM Brazil became the largest vessel to call a U.S. East Coast port when the container ship, with a capacity of 15,072 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), arrived at the Port of New York and New Jersey on Saturday.
