First U.S. LNG ATB Marks the Completion of Sea Trials

Q-LNG gets USCG approval for variant design bunkering fuels ATBs

Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport (Q-LNG) has received U.S. Coast Guard design basis acceptance and regulatory approvals to move forward with construction on two variants of its current design. The designs, each for a 5,400m3 and 8,000m3 articulated tug and barge (“ATB”), are both variants of the 4,000m3 ATB design currently under construction at VT Halter Marine in Pascagoula, Miss.

VT Halter launches LNG ATB barge

In November 2017, New Orleans-based Q-LNG Transport LLC awarded a contract to VT Halter Marine, Pascagoula, Miss., to build a first-of-its-kind (in the U.S.) liquid natural gas (LNG) articulated tug/barge (ATB) unit.

Last week, the 4,000-cubic meter, 324’x64’x32’6″ liquid natural gas ATB barge Q-LNG 4000, was launched from the docks of VT Halter. The ATB also consists of the 128’x42’x21′ 5,100-hp tug, Q-Ocean Service.

Update on the Construction of World’s First LNG Bunker ATB
