Inventories clog supply chain again in February

Supply chain likely to stay bogged down with inventory

A Tuesday report showed activity across the supply chain was near record levels again in February. A sizable amount of inventory in the system was met by a lack of capacity to either move it or store it, a trend that continued from January.

The Logistics Managers’ Index (LMI), a survey measuring supply chain conditions, came in at 75.2 during the month, 3.3 points higher than January and the second-highest level recorded in the dataset’s five-year history. This was the 13th consecutive month the...

Honeywell: Aerospace company or retail powerhouse?

Honeywell proving it's not a one-trick pony with a growing presence in retail

When you think of Honeywell, chances are you’re conjuring up images of aerospace and defense technology, of products like jet engines, satellite communications systems and maybe even quantum computers. But over the years, the massive multinational conglomerate has quietly ventured into a decidedly different setting: retail.

White House starts publishing supply chain dashboard

With the U.S. economy relying heavily on clearing out freight bottlenecks up and down the supply chain, the White House on Wednesday started a twice-monthly dashboard featuring key performance indicators to measure progress.

‘Improved’ inventories still lagging sales growth; tailwind for trucking

Retail inventories still challenged

The nation’s largest retailers are painting a more constructive picture on inventories. On a sequential comparison, merchandise levels have continued to recover from the widespread stockouts seen in the early days of the pandemic. But record demand throughout the summer, fall and holiday buying season have inventories still in need of significant replenishment, which is a favorable catalyst for trucking demand.

A look at the retail sector’s recent earnings reports showed that sales outpaced...

Thin inventories lengthen trucking demand runway

Low retail inventories suggest elevated trucking demand continues

Elevated demand and tight capacity have highlighted the trucking market for a few months now. Recent data points and commentary suggest this dynamic may not abate anytime soon as most supply chains still lack adequate inventory and the trucks needed to move it.

Several of the nation’s largest retailers noted that while they have been able to modestly improve inventory positions, stock for many essential items remains below pre-pandemic levels. High demand for food and beverage items, retail...
