ClockWork finesses the final mile

Light highway truck traffic

While COVID-19 pressed the gas on technology adoption in the global transportation industry, a lot of the financial cost of that technology adoption falls to the truckload carrier or driver — an additional burden they don’t need.

From November 2019 to November 2020, 500,000 fewer people were employed in the trucking industry. While the initiation of the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse last year removed thousands of drivers off the road, the reality is that drivers struggle with their level of...

M&A radar: Dancing in the dark with Geodis, Hellmann & Röhlig

“You can’t start a fire – You can’t start a fire without a spark – This gun’s for hire – Even if we’re just dancin’ in the dark.” – Bruce Springsteen, 1984.
The M&A trigger. When the talk gets really serious in my circles and the blind lead the blind, three names with completely different DNA, let alone size, often come up: France’s Geodis as well as Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Röhlig Logistics both out …

Under the radar: Röhlig Logistics’ strategy – lessons & warnings for all mid-tier 3PLs out there

While the big players in the 3PL arena train their crosshairs on each other, it’s easy to overlook the mid-tier in Europe’s freight forwarding market.
Among them, Germany’s fiercely-independent Röhlig Logistics, will be putting its 2018 annual report together about now.
A positive show could offer survival insights for mid-market peers, although given its previous 2017 numbers – and rumours about internal organisational changes – such a show is not guaranteed.
