Autopilot error leads to landing craft grounding

ATSB published the report on the grounding of ‘Lauren Hansen’ off Melville Island, in the Northern Territory. The incident took place on 10 April 2018, with ATSB citing an error on the autopilot as the cause of the grounding.

NYK introduces new ship-bridge concept to reduce casualties

Japanese shipping company NYK has completed a new concept for a ship’s bridge and employed it on a large container ship. The new bridge concept, is named ‘Integrated information and bridge system’, and the space and nautical instruments on this new bridge have been designed to take advantage of IoT aspects of instruments and to improve the safety and efficiency of vessel operation.

UKHO surveys Dominica waters to support ship safety and environment

The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has deployed a motorboat to survey the waters off Dominica, as part of the Commonwealth Marine Economies (CME) Programme. Data from the survey will be used to update navigation charts of the region, as well as helping Dominica to meet its international maritime obligations, including respective elements of the Implementation of IMO Instruments Code (IIIC).

Shipping community reaffirms cooperation in Straits of Malacca and Singapore
