Saudi Ports boost container volumes in October

Container throughput across the ports in Saudi Arabia continued its upward year-on-year movement during October 2022, soaring to 694,517 TEUs, translating to an increase of 15.33%.

Looking at the numbers for the previous month, there is a 17.75% growth in exported boxes to 202,030 TEUs compared to 2021. Similarly, imported containers increased by 23.02% to 214,174 TEUs while transhipments increased by 8.49% to 278,313 TEUs.

Saudi ports exceed 600,000 TEU in May

Saudi Ports’ container throughput reached 600,107 TEU in May, translating to a slight increase of 1.38% compared to the figure recorded last year in the same period.

In the previous month, the exported containers increased by 2.57% with a total of 175,958 TEU, while the imported containers decreased by 0.64% with a total of 176,978 TEU.

COSCO mega vessel -the largest in Saudi ports’ history- docks at Dammam

Dammam’s King Abdul Aziz Port has received one of the world’s largest mega-vessels and the largest vessel in the history of Saudi ports.

Cosco Shipping’s Solar is 400 meters long, 59 meters wide and has a depth of 16 meters in the water. It has a capacity of 21,300 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit).

The port’s director-general, Waleed Al-Faris, said the ship’s arrival was proof that the Dammam facility was a global logistics destination.
