August record month at South Carolina’s Inland Port Greer

South Carolina Ports’ Inland Port Greer saw record volumes in August, handling 16,857 rail moves, which is 52% higher than a year ago.

SC Ports handles over 200,000 TEUs in July

South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) handled 208,134 TEUs and 115,422 pier containers in July.

More specifically, imports flowing into the port of Charleston outperformed US volumes with a 12% increase from June and a 3% increase year-over-year. At the same time, exports were up 9% from last year. However, total container volume was down about 4% year-over-year in July, driven by lower exports of empty boxes.

SC Ports handled record cargo volumes last year

South Carolina Ports joins Georgia and Virginia in posting a record 2022, with the Port of Charleston handling the most containers ever in its history. The port complex handled nearly 2.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units in the calendar year, up 1.5% from 2021, the port said Thursday.

SC Ports also moved more than 1.5 million pier containers in the year, a figure that accounts for containers of any size. That is a 1% gain year over year.

SC Ports to construct intermodal facility to serve Charleston

The South Carolina Ports Authority is developing rail and barge projects aimed at supporting the growth of imports and exports through the Port of Charleston.

September volumes at South Carolina Ports rose nearly 11% year over year and reached a monthly record, as port operations strove to maintain fluidity, port officials said.

Port of Virginia boasts record volumes in 2022

The Port of Virginia experienced record volumes for fiscal year 2022, boosted by consumer activity and shippers’ desire to avoid congestion at West Coast ports.

Port of Charleston marks 13th consecutive month of record volumes

March was the 13th consecutive month for record container volumes at the Port of Charleston, and South Carolina Ports officials say they are working to ensure the port doesn’t get clogged up.
