Ex-Shanghai spot rates rise on major routes

The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) for the week of July 29 rose 5.3% from the previous week to 830.94 points, the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) unveiled on Friday.

JIFFA: SCFI down 2.3%

The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index for Week 26, unveiled on July 5 by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE), stood at 810.91 points, down 2.3% from the previous week.

On the Europe trade, transport demand only grew minutely, although the peak season for shipment had already set in. In addition, the deployment of mega container ships led to tonnage oversupply. SCFI dips slightly last week

Supply-demand picture in China’s containerized export was mixed depending on trade routes and the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) edged down by 0.3% to a reading of 723.93 last Friday.

Spot rates for containers moving from Shanghai to Europe was $743 per TEU, up 2.8% from the previous week bolstered by a stable transport demand while on the Mediterranean trade, the freight rate moved upward by 2.0% to $710 per TEU.

Spot rates from Shanghai fall in major routes

The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) declined 4.0% to a reading of 726.23 last Friday, May 17, as the short demand prompted shipping lines to move ahead on rate cuttings in most of the trade routes.

Spot rates from Shanghai to Europe fell 5.9% to $723 per TEU while the SCFI from Shanghai to the Mediterranean dipped by 4.1% to $696 per TEU.

Shanghai box freight index falls last week

The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 2.7 percent to 756.88 last week from the previous Friday’s reading of 778.00 to a reading of 703.67, as increases from Shanghai to the Europe trade was not enough to offset declines from Shanghai to the U.S. trades.

Spot rates from Shanghai to Europe rose 7.1 percent last week, from $717 per TEU to $768 per TEU, while spot rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean remained roughly flat at $726 per TEU.
