Fire In The Turkish Port Of Iskenderun Under Control

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake, catastrophe broke out in the Iskenderun port of Turkey as the fire engulfed the port forcing authorities to shut it down temporarily. On Wednesday, February 8, the maritime authorities contained the fire with combined air, water and land efforts.

Earlier, the maritime authorities revealed that all ships had been diverted as the port wasn’t in a condition to provide ship handling services.

January imports up from December, but February is looking weak

In January, U.S. containerized imports logged their highest month-on-month gain since last May, according to data from Descartes. Inbound volumes rose 7.2% versus December to 2,068,493 twenty-foot equivalent units, Descartes reported Wednesday.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that last month’s imports were almost identical to Descartes’ imports stats for January 2019 and 2020, pre-pandemic.
