Tampon shortage latest impact of supply chain issues

Nearly empty store shelves show tampons are in short supply.

At the beginning of the pandemic, it was hand sanitizer and toilet paper. In recent weeks, baby formula has been hard to come by thanks to supply chain disruptions. Now, women are finding empty shelves when they go to the store to buy tampons.

Inflation on necessities and supply chain disruptions are hitting women hard. Approximately 70% of menstruating women use tampons every month. When women can find them, the feminine hygiene products have risen in price.

Bloomberg reported that average...

A FedEx Express MD-11 freighter and a United Airlines passenger jet are scheduled to land Thursday afternoon at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport with emergency shipments of baby formula organized by the Biden administration as part of its campaign to alleviate a critical domestic food shortage for infants.

How US trade policy is making the baby formula shortage worse

Partially empty shelves of infant formula with a sign alerting consumers.

Policy analysts say a series of U.S. trade restrictions, including ones engineered under the Trump administration, and lean manufacturing practices help explain why stores can’t easily replenish stocks of baby formula. The taxes and extra regulatory hoops make it expensive and difficult to import the specialized baby food.

The U.S. produces 98% of the infant formula it consumes, but that self-sufficiency is being tested by limited availability of ingredients because of supply chain disruptions,...

The Federal Trade Commission said Friday it is extending by 30 days the deadline for retailers, consumer goods suppliers, wholesalers and consumers to submit voluntary comments as part of the agency’s inquiry into supply chain disruptions. The new deadline is Feb. 28.
