Cargo downturn hurts Asian carriers more than global competitors

Korean Air, the fifth-largest cargo shipping airline, on Wednesday said cargo revenue in the second quarter plunged 56% to $748.8 million, further illustrating how a weak freight market has impacted Asian carriers more than others.

Korean Air has a fleet of 155 aircraft, including 23 widebody freighters (Boeing 747s and 777s).

Singapore Airlines inaugurates 777 freighter service for DHL Express

Singapore Airlines will begin operating this month a 777 freighter three times per week to the U.S. via South Korea under a multi-aircraft outsourcing contract with DHL Express.

Western Global Airlines orders 2 Boeing 777-8 freighters

Boeing and Airbus on Wednesday issued dueling announcements about new customers for their respective next-generation large freighter programs.

Scoot, the budget carrier of Singapore Airlines Group, has removed the seats from an Airbus A320 aircraft to help meet demand for more cargo capacity and optimize deliveries to smaller airports during the coronavirus pandemic.

World Food Program says COVID air network could fold soon

The World Food Program (WFP) says its air logistics support for humanitarian groups fighting the COVID-19 pandemic is running out of money.

The United Nations organization has managed more than 800 aid flights to 161 countries since May, when it established eight humanitarian response hubs and air links among them dedicated to pandemic response. Cargo volumes dispatched have been rising each month and total 44,654 cubic meters, according to an Aug. 11 situation report.
