SGMF and IAPH to work on the use of alternative gases as marine fuels

The Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) and its Clean Marine Fuels Working group to work together aiming to increase knowledge about the safe, effective and sustainable supply and use of all gases as marine fuels.

In particular, the potential use of ammonia will be investigated from source to ship with all related safety, operational and sustainability considerations.

New LNG report adds fire to pro-gas campaigners

SEA-LNG and the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) say that the latest study on LNG as a marine fuel showed that the gas could reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by up to 23%.

The ‘2nd Lifecycle GHG Emission Study on the use of LNG as a Marine Fuel’from Sphera, formerly thinkstep which produced its first study in 2019, was commissioned by SEA-LNG and SGMF and used primary data from original engine manufacturers and fuel suppliers to calculate emission reductions.

Marseille Fos port focuses on LNG bunkering operations

Port of Marseille Fos has announced its aim to become the liquefied natural gas (LNG) hub in the Mediterranean, following the completion of a second bunkering operation on 15 June, after a first LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation in early May.

The Port of Marseille Fos, Costa and Shell repeated successfully the first bunkering operation, demonstrating the port’s ability to develop this type of refuelling operation.
