Sri Lanka Ports Authority orders US$280 million cranes from China

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is set to receive twelve state-of-the-art STS Gantry cranes and forty ARMG cranes from China, totalling US$282 million in investment.

Shipping agents threaten to stop carrying cargoes to and from Sri Lanka

Shipping agents in Sri Lanka have warned that shipping lines could stop accepting import and export cargo to and from Sri Lanka as they are failing to remit freight charges due to the ongoing severe foreign currency crises in the island nation.

Colombo port workers return to work after 23 hours

Workers at Colombo port returned to work on Wednesday (11 May) afternoon after enforcing strikes for 23 hours since Tuesday (10 May) evening.

Sri Lanka to collect shipping payments only in US dollars, aims to exceed US$100 million/year in revenue

Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Cabinet Minister Ports and Shipping Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon has decided to encourage shipping lines to pay Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in US dollars.

Second phase of Colombo East Container Terminal construction begins

President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa and prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have announced the commencement of construction work for the second phase of the East Container Terminal (ECT) at the Colombo Port.

SLPA looks for US$325 million funds to proceed with East Container Terminal project
