St. Paul Engineer district to close four locks and dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing four of its locks and dams in early December for maintenance. The closures will officially end the 2023 navigation season on the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and Guttenberg, Iowa. They will also enable inspection, maintenance and upgrade work at some of the facilities

Locks and dams 2 and 4 will close to all river traffic Dec. 4 – March 5, 2024, and locks and dams 3 and 7 will be closed Dec. 4 – March 15, 2024.

Corps seeks comments on plan to protect Lock and Dam 4 from barge impacts

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has released a draft Environmental Assessment, or EA, for a proposed end cell project at Lock and Dam 4, near Alma, Wis., and is seeking public comments. Comments should be submitted no later than Jun 9.

The purpose of the project is to construct an end cell just below the existing downstream guidewall at Lock and Dam 4. The end cell would increase the protection of the lock and dam from barge impacts. The end cell would be 33 feet in diameter...

Corps seeks comments on pipeline plan for dredged material

The St. Paul Engineer District is seeking public comments on a draft plan to install a pipeline near Reads Landing, Minn., that would be used to transport dredged material, or river sand, during maintenance of the Mississippi River navigation channel.
