SGR boosting efficiency at Mombasa port, Kenya says

Kenya said on Friday (9/20) that the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has enhanced efficiency at the port of Mombasa.

Edward Opiyo, head of container operations, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) told reporters that the Mombasa- Nairobi railway line currently evacuates 50 percent of all cargo that arrives at the port.

“The SGR has been instrumental in reducing the port of Mombasa’s container dwell time making it an attractive facility for international traders in the east and central Africa region,” said...

Mombasa port: The key to Uganda’s trades

Talks between Kenya and Uganda when President Yoweri Museveni visited Kenya recently mainly focused on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and operations at the Port of Mombasa.

The main reason the two facilities took centre stage is obvious to see; the 2018 port transit report places Uganda as the biggest user of the port where it had imported 7.4 million metric tonnes of goods last year. It was an increase from 6.5 million tonnes of goods compared with the previous year. The country’s transit...
