Dockworkers at Canada’s West Coast ports launch strike

More than 7,400 dockworkers represented by the International Longshore and Warehouse Union in Canada went on strike Saturday after negotiations with the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) failed to reach a new labor contract. 

The strike threatens to disrupt container traffic at two of Canada’s busiest ports in Vancouver and Prince Rupert, key export gateways for the country.

WestJet initiates controlled shutdown as pilot strike looms

Canadian airline WestJet has begun grounding aircraft to minimize operational disruption and side effects ahead of Friday’s planned strike by pilots.

WestJet Group is carrying out a lockout so it can take down its network in an orderly way. Canceling flights gradually will avoid stranding aircraft in remote locations without support and allow communication with customers to change their plans before their scheduled flights.

Offshore Workers Strike at BP’s North Sea Installations

March 3 (Reuters) – About 50 offshore workers on BP North Sea installations have backed strike action in a dispute over pay and overtime rates, British union Unite said on Friday. The strike involves Unite’s members who work on BP’s Andrew, Clair, Clair Ridge, ETAP, Glen Lyon and Mungo installations in the North Sea.
